Greetings, fellow citizens of Earth.
My name is Croix Gyurek and I am a mathematician (in training, perhaps) trying to hold on to moral courage in a strange world. I believe that I can reveal information about myself best by showcasing my work (note: this is NOT saying that I am defined by my work, but rather that my work shows elements of who I am).
As of May 2025, I am a mathematics Master's student at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. Currently, I have two papers published, one in WWW 2025 and one in KDD 2024. I also have another paper in arXiv presenting a new problem. I have done other research that unfortunately "failed" (did not get published), but was still valuable for my personal growth. More on my mathematical research.
I must admit that I have recently felt less drawn to programming and more to mathematical research, and so my GitHub page is somewhat lacking. That being said, perhaps my best work in this domain is Homeworlds Live, a now-unmaintained but reasonably stable website for playing the board game Homeworlds over the internet in real time. I also have a 2D non-Euclidean game engine I made for a class project but I never really finished it.
This is a subject I have been thinking about for a long time. My stories frequently center around my observations of political polarization present in society, without taking a side.
